Course Description:

Awareness Module

In this particular module, students will be able to gain and develop awareness of some of the difficulties faced by those in the neurodiverse community and how this may affect the behaviours they present.  In addition, students will be able to comprehend the biological processes that occur when one is trying to manage challenging behaviours.  Techniques will be explored allowing the students to support their emotional wellbeing.  These techniques can be employed in the work or home setting.  The art of mindfulness will be explored, allowing the students to broaden their knowledge about mindfulness and its benefits for both clients, practitioners and parents.  The theoretical context of mindfulness is explored and students will be able to explore mindfulness through experiential learning.
 
 
Outcomes:
  • Empathy and awareness of a range of neurodevelopment conditions.
  • Empathy and awareness of a range of educational, social, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Broaden knowledge of neurodiverse groups and the difficulties they may face.
  • learning about sensory integration and how we can enter the world of those with sensory integration difficulties.
  • Develop awareness of the bodily responses that affect practise.
  • Develop an  awareness of the bodily responses that lead to some of the challenges experienced by the neurodiverse.
  • Develop ways to be a more mindful parent/practitioner.
  • Learn to enrich your knowledge of mindfulness.
  • Understand how mindfulness is used in a range of contexts.
  • Manage challenging behaviours and learn to take care of one’s self through awareness, breathing, yoga and movement techniques.
  • Learn mindfulness based stress reduction methods.

Knowledge Module

In this second module, we aim to introduce the main theories of typical child development and its relevant critical analysis.  Similarities and differences between the theoretical approaches will be examined, and how they contributed to the neurodiverse experience.  Furthermore, a range of methods to support children with challenging behaviours will be analysed.  You will learn to monitor and observe behaviour, and the techniques used to help children overcome challenges.
We will also focus on Dyslexia.  The strengths and difficulties faced by adults and children with Dyslexia are explored.  You will also get a glimpse of some of the work of Nada El Araby (CEO of Building Blocks therapy Centre), whose methods are both integrative and holistic in nature, allowing the uniqueness of the Dyslexic brain to emerge.  Techniques are learned that can be applied to both adults and children are explained.
  • Develop an understanding of the different ways children can develop and overcome specific developmental milestones.
  • Compare and contrast theories of child development and personality development.
  • Develop knowledge of practical interventions to help children overcome developmental milestones.
  • Developing an understanding of how to observe and monitor challenging behaviour.
  • How to use observation and monitoring tools to put interventions in place.
  • Learn interventions to support children experiencing challenging behaviour.
  • Broaden your knowledge in dyslexia.
  • Learn the theoretical background of dyslexia.
  • Introduce our dyslexia approach based on work done by Nada El Araby the CEO of Building Blocks Therapy Centre.
  • Learn to engage in creative ways to work with children with dyslexia.

Therapeutic Module (Choose from the following)

In order to complete the course, 8 sessions of the following practices will be undertaken by each student. These practices will allow the student to develop a better understanding of the techniques discussed during the course.
Often parents and practitioners neglect their own wellbeing.  We chose the following practices in order to engage the differences among our potential students.
Yoga:  utilised for its benefits on the body, such as fitness, health and relaxation. It combines movements, and breathing, offering the sensation of being grounded. In the buddhist practice, yoga is considered a way of meditation, expansion of awareness and the possibility of check in psychosomatically.
 
Mindfulness: through breathing and checking in, one is able to become aware of the self and body, while acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts and sensations.
 
Coaching: is a goal-oriented approach that allows clients to identify clear targets, the difficulties they may encounter reaching these and find actions that help them achieve these goals through organisation, goal setting and managing their time, through non-judgemental guidance.

We are able to provide all our training courses in the UK and overseas, providing face to face learning and online classes.  Courses are assessed through essay questions, assessment of your very own case studies and reflective journal work.
