Qualified Speech and Language Therapist

Job Description

Qualified speech and language therapists (SLT) will report to the consultant.  As an SLT you will provide assessments, provide information pertaining to the child’s speech and language needs  and carry out individualised one-to-one programmes and group activities with children affected by speech and language difficulties.  You will also provide updates and reports of the child progress, and feedback to parents, therapists and line managers.  Your role may also require you to provide therapists with guidance on the methods used in programmes based on your assessment.

As part of this role, administrative duties will need to be completed pertaining to session updates and report writing.  In addition, SLT’s will need to support the work of the staff members carrying out assessments and develop and create resources.

A high standard of verbal and written communication is necessary in order to adequately keep schools, families and the wider community up to date on the range of services BBTC offers.

Person Specification

Essential

Must be registered with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists

Must be registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council

Clear understanding of the underpinning theory to practice

At least 1 year of experience working with children

Commitment to at least 1 year of work with Building Blocks Therapy Centre

Able to communicate complex, sensitive condition-related information from assessment to clients

Ability to give clear advice, instruction and training to clients, therapists and other professionals working with the child, in relation to a range of communication difficulties/disorders

Ability to work independently

Competent IT skills

Excellent organisational and time management skills

Have an understanding of the importance of inclusion and inclusive learning

Have a strong understanding of typical child development

Promote equality for all in and outside of the workplace

 

 

Desirable

Ability to work with children with neurodevelopmental conditions.

Knowledge of current UK legislation, including the ECM framework and Children and Families Act

Ability to travel outside of the UK
