Social Skills Programme
Social skills are behaviors that enable individuals to interact positively and effectively with others. They are crucial for a child’s growth and development, helping them to form relationships and navigate social situations at home and school. Our Social Skills Programme consists of ten sessions for groups of two children who are matched on their age and social functioning. Each session is facilitated by a therapist and co-facilitated by an assistant therapist. The lead therapist will be someone that your child has been working with prior to this programme and will be familiar with. Over the ten sessions, five environments and situations will be simulated online that your child will have experienced and will continue to experience as they develop, focusing on encouraging them to develop an alliance with a peer to benefit their learning process and ability to co-regulate. Each environmental situation will include a problem that the pair will be asked to problem solve together. This will give your child an opportunity to develop and work on their social skills in a safe space.

Importance of Social Skills
Social skills are vital for children’s development and well-being. They help children build positive relationships with peers, teachers, and family members, leading to better self-esteem, higher academic achievement, and fewer behavioral issues. Additionally, children with strong social skills are better prepared to handle challenges like bullying, peer pressure, and social anxiety. Benefits of Social Skills and How Kids Can Attain Them Developing social skills offers numerous benefits, including increased self-esteem, confidence, and a positive outlook on life. Children with good social skills are also better at managing stress and emotions. Children can learn social skills in several ways: Through Play: Playing with others provides an excellent opportunity to develop social skills. Modeling Positive Behavior: Parents and caregivers can demonstrate behaviors like taking turns, sharing, and being kind. School Activities: Teachers can use games, role-playing, group projects, and discussions about emotions to teach social skills. Real-life practice during recess or lunchtime also helps.
Why are social skills important?
Social skills help children form positive relationships, have conversations, use body language, cooperate, share, and play together. Good social skills also improve mental capacity, cognitive abilities, and overall mental health.
Will my child make a friend?
For individual social skill training sessions, your child will learn essential skills to apply and generalise in every day situations. And yes the aim is to make friends after learning these skills. For team social skill training sessions, where two children are matched together; making friends is one of the aims of the programme! We match two children together, where we believe would bring a positive impact in eachothers lives. The aim is that after the programme, or even throughout, the children ask to be friends outside of sessions too.
Do you use social stories?
Yes absolutely! We illustrated and wrote our own social stories based on the common challenges we have seen over the years of working with children. Here are some of our social stories: Going to the Bathroom, Personal Space, What to do When I Get Wet, Sharing with my Sibling, Throwing, What to do When I Get Angry.
Who can sign up?

What is the length of the programme?
The two types of programmes we offer are: 1) Pair Programmes (10 sessions) 2) 1:1 Programmes (the number of sessions depends on the child’s individual needs)
